Exploring Magnets
About this chapter
Exploring Magnets is the first physics chapter of Class 6 Curiosity. It introduces children to magnets through Reshma's story of olden-day sailors who used a magnetic compass to find directions. The chapter builds five core ideas: magnetic vs non-magnetic materials, the two poles of every magnet, why a freely suspended magnet rests along the north-south direction, attraction and repulsion between magnets, and the use of magnets to find direction. CTET Paper 2 Science tests this chapter most often through everyday-object identification (which items are magnetic), pole behaviour (single pole impossible, like poles repel), and the compass-needle deflection. Each of the four tests below — Practice 15 Q, Quiz 15 Q, Hard 15 Q, Mastery 30 Q — covers these ideas at the right depth and pace.
